Had to defend hickory tavern – After reading the bad reviews, i had to write. I am a local in Arden and regularly visit Hickory Tavern. The food is just as good as any other pub establishments. One of our favorites is the Fish sandwich. If u don't like it with a bit of flare, they will cook it to your liking( less seasoning or plain). The coconut cake and steak sandwich are good also. So Disappointing – Arrived in town and was excited to hear there was a place for good buffalo wings. After overlooking a menu whose pages were stuck together with sticky something or other, we were served wings for an appetizer that were undercooked and flavorless. This can't possibly be the areas best, as the waitress boasted. Didn't make it past the appetizer. The beer was really cold and sweet tea was refreshing.
not impressed – Hello sportsfans! If you like a place thats wall to wall TVs, then you might have a new place to call home. If you're expecting great food...I'd stick to a liquid diet and just have beer. I had the Black & Blue chicken sandwich. I could not detect any cajun spices on my chicken & the blue cheese tasted like paint or some other industrial solvent. My friend had the California burger & she said it was flavorless & kinda soggy in her mouth. Bleh
Hickory Tavern (Bad experience) 9/10/2010 – My Husband & I live in Biltmore Park. We decided to experience Hickory Tavern for the first time We planned our visit for 4:00PM so it wouldn't be busy. There were only about 4 tables so we planned well. The waitress was very dry and didn't have knowledge of what was avail & failed to give any info about any specials . The food was terrible. Love this place! – We eat here often after boating on Lake Norman. There is something for everyone on the menu. Our kids love their kids meals. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is great and the service has always been excellent. Highly recommended!
Slow service and small portions – Do not go to for lunch during the work week. Even the blue plate specials take a long time to get. Mac & Cheese looks like it came straight from a Kraft box. Price for a Coke is $2.20. Small portions that will not fill you up. If you are pressed for time during your lunch hour please pass on this option.
Disappointing carry-out order – We picked up a carry-out order of salad and chicken tenders at the Tavern in Hickory on 12/16/09. --Price--$25 for two orders!! Just two tiny salads and five tenders each was that much! Salad was unsatisfactory--poor quality lettuce, very small servings, etc. Also, got the wrong sauce for the chicken tenders. Croissants were hard. It wasn't worth our time or money to go and pick up this over priced meal. Called to complain--they will replace our salads. What about our inconvenience?
Horrible, DO NOT EAT HERE – Ok, now normally I don 't blast people on the internet, but the other nite we went to this place, and the service was terrible. Once-Awesome Oyster Night now terrible. Gold Band Oysters are disgusting, pre-frozen, processed. – My friends and I have met at the Carmel Road Hickory Tavern almost every Thursday for a couple years now. We started going there because of the location and because of the delicious oysters that they had on special at the time.
