They just aren’t open enough anymore
My partner and I had the chance to try Hibari’s Kappo Omakase course in Portola Valley. The menu changes with the seasons, moving through sashimi, small bites, and the chef’s specialties, so every visit is a little different. This wasn’t your typical omakase experience. Each course was thoughtfully prepared and offered something different, with a nice mix of flavors, textures, and techniques. It was a fun way to experience a broader range of Japanese cuisine beyond just sushi, and every dish felt distinct from the last.
Open for lunch and dinner. Very good sashimi..always fresh. This is not your typical Japanese restaurant with rolls etc. Its a different style. Quality of fish n shellfish are very fresh.
A true hidden gem! Hibari in Portola Valley is the kind of omakase spot you want to keep to yourself, but it's too good not to share! We did the Kappo Omakase, a seasonal kappo experience showcasing the best ingredients of the day through a progression of sashimi, delicacies, warm preparations, and chef's specialties. 9 courses for $150 per guest, which felt like a good deal for the quality and care in every plate.
