I contacted Helpmate at the behest of the Family Justice Center for Buncombe county. Not knowing who they were, just that people kept referring to them and for me to call because I was the victim of DV. My first call, they were borderline rude and told me that someone would be getting back in touch. A Therapist or Care Coordinator, with information regarding resources. No one ever called back. My second call, they were actually rude and tried to give me the line of, "getting back in touch with you", again. People can be busy... read more
11 years ago to the day these ladies saved my life.... I had my kids with me. They always helped me through my breakdowns, and helped me slowly at my own pace to live again. I will always tell my story and highly recommend this shelter... Ty for all that you do
They mostly just want your signatures to show the foot traffic so they can get their grants. Good luck getting the help they say they can do. Just a waste of time for me. They don’t even call you back with answers when they say they will.
My experience with helpmate was less than stellar. I was seeking assistance, advice and/or guidance with securing my own residence in the Asheville area. I am new to the area and had been staying with an old friend (of nearly 40 yrs) who had opened a door to me for a fresh start in the South. After 5 months of platonic cohabitation it became obvious my roommate is suffering from an undiagnosed mental illness.
