Call the hot line during the week. If you call during the weekend often it is a volunteer trained for the hot line. Go in during the week. I would not be writing this review today without helpmate. Thank you for saving my life.

My life changing experiences with Helpmate taught me how to motivate myself and make my way through legal channels to escape DV. It wasn’t easy or quick, but the love and lessons I learned through the staff stayed with me to this day. Keep in mind that these people are risking their own safety to work with victims. I want to thank you all at Helpmate, forever in your gratitude!

The staff and counselors at Helpmate are angels. I would not be alive without them. They provided me with counseling far longer than was "usual," helped me craft a safety plan, went with me to my 50B hearing, wrote letters of support, held space for me to report an assault, provided legal referrals when I was later stalked, harassed, and assaulted (again), and continued to check in on my wellbeing far longer than was required. Even with overcrowding, underfunding, and legal hurdles, these people go out of their way to suppor... read more

I contacted Helpmate at the behest of the Family Justice Center for Buncombe county. Not knowing who they were, just that people kept referring to them and for me to call because I was the victim of DV. My first call, they were borderline rude and told me that someone would be getting back in touch. A Therapist or Care Coordinator, with information regarding resources. No one ever called back. My second call, they were actually rude and tried to give me the line of, "getting back in touch with you", again. People can be busy... read more
