Do not go here for gynecologic issues. The care that Elizabeth Spellman provided was dismissive and condescending. She also informed me that it would best if I go to Boston or Freeport Maine. Yet didn’t refer me to a specific doctor or practice. Also, told me that my issue was essentially out of her scope of care. The care I was seeking was for an ovarian cyst the size of an egg that is causing a lot of pain and discomfort. She said “It could be worse. At least it’s not the size of a football”. Have been going here for a few years now for just general women’s health and most recently, an IUD insertion, all of which have been pleasant experiences. I typically see Carolyn Biba but due to insurance purposes, had to have someone else place my IUD. That other person was Whitney Williams and she was so sweet, reassuring, and made the experience as calm as possible. They are very intervention based due to wanting full control over your pregnancy and whatever else they can control. They disfavor spontaneous birth and use fear mongering to coerce you. Not everything is evidence based. Not very pro woman.
Have had multiple issues with them scheduling my appointment for wrong dates and years. 4 times to be exact. Called ahead to double check and confirm with my last appointment and was told everything was fine and to be there for 10 am. When I got to the office to check in once again another scheduling issue. I asked to speak with the office manager since this has happened more than once and she was extremely rude and unsympathetic. I had to have a fairly unpleasant procedure today. (Sometimes being a woman really stinks!) Dr. Nelson, and everyone else I encountered, was wonderful. Dr. Nelson explained what she was doing and did it efficiently and with as little pain as possible. She sat with me to make sure I was feeling okay before I left. I always feel supported and well-cared-for at Harbour Women’s Health.
