Came in with a stripped crank arm. Fixed by the next day. They noticed my brake situation too!
Pete and team are terrific. After being frustrated with other shops in the Alexandria area, I found Handy. I've used the shop for general maintenance and tune ups. I met Handy Bikes staff at a recent bike to work event in town and they turned out to be a great shop to work with when I unexpectedly needed my bike replaced. They were very helpful, timely and attentive, making sure sure items that needed to be moved to my new bike were in addition to ensuring the bike was ready to roll. There systems to update customers on work progress were better than my experience with some larger chains in the area. Thanks!
I purchased a Surly Preamble and ordered a trailer for it which should come in next week. The service while I test rode, purchased the bike, and special ordered the trailer was phenomenal. Everyone who works there is extremely friendly, and unlike some other bike shops I've been too, they are not stuck up, elitist, and snobby. I would 10/10 recommend Handy Bikes!
TL;DR: favorite atmosphere, great products on the shelves, dedicated and persistent team We're pretty lucky in the DMV to have a large selection of great bike shops. This gives us the ability to find a fantastic shop near home or that fits our cycling life. Some shops feel too grungy, some maybe too race-focused for my preference, but I enjoy that the Handy vibe is just chill, respectful, and welcoming.
