Hanbleceya is more like a penitentiary than a mental health facility. The staff is mostly inexperienced and poorly trained, with a hostile, harsh attitude towards the patients. There was very little caring or positive support provided. Our young adult child, who suffered from depression, and was not unruly or disobedient, had a horrible experience; and whose condition deteriorated there. Our 21-year old mentally ill son spent 3 months at Hanbleceya. It was a traumatic experience. The Hanbleceya culture is unlike any other. Despite claims to the contrary, the emphasis is on treating addiction and codependency, not mental illness. Hanbleceya prides itself on their extreme tough love approach. Staff may mean well, but seem to think the end justifies all means. Clients and parents are kept in line with the threat of immediate dismissal.
