Sushi is very fresh and offers unique items This is a very small restaurant which has some great sushi! I've liked most of the sashimi I've had there. They also have some interesting items that I haven't seen other places...one was a carpaccio like fish dish that was extremely good. I think that the prices were comparable to other sushi places (meaning that it's not cheap). It's in the same complex as the Safeway.
Great Japanese food Manamaru is a great little restaurant with creative idea for Japanese food. It is one of those Japanese restaurant with a page full of different types of hand roll and sushi. My favorite is their sashimi capaccio (Italian fusion). It has a wonderful sauce that really enhances the sashimi.
Best sushi Hanamaru is a small restaurant with a sushi bar as well as tables. There are boats that go around the sushi bar. The sushi is the outstanding. They also have an interesting menu for those wanting more traditional japanese food.

Very tasty n friendly sushi restaurant! – I was at Hanamaru sushi restaurant on Friday with my friends. Alothough it takes about on an hour from San francisco to drive to sunnyvale, it was definitely worth it. The restaurant doesn't look super fancy, but their interior looks clean and cute. nothing special – Saw the reviews and thought I would give it a try today (6/24/07). Since it's close to closing, and there were not many sushi boats flowing, I decided not to take the sushi bar. Ordered 3 appetizers, 7 kinds of nigiri (2 pc each), 1 handroll, 1 roll. Fish was on the thin side, and tasted bland. Rice was a bit more. Hanamaru – Very good sushi/sauces and the sushi chef's are very friendly! Some of the waitresses are a bit "cold" but that's OK. I go at least 1 a week and they remember my order.
Very good quality, even better price! – I ate here twice while visiting friends it was so good! In addition, very affordable compared to other Sushi restaurants I've visited in the area. Small, quiet and unassuming atmosphere, a little out of the way but worth giving it a try if you're around Sunnyvale.
