If you are looking for ingredients to make hummus, or you need a pound of olives, Haji Baba Restaurant & Grocery is the place to visit. The grocery is full of imported items you can't find anywhere else and the fresh olives are pickled on-site. If you stay to eat, the menu is filled with specialties from the Middle East, from the Arabic coffee to the Chicken Schwarma, everything is top-notch. Service may be slow sometimes due to its popularity, however it is one of Tempe's best restaurants and merits a visit when you're in t... read more

Best Gyro in phoenix – Get the Gyro Deluxe with the delish Feta. Love it.
My other favorite dig! – Amazing handmade pitas. Really truly great middle eastern food. A far and away favorite in my family. It's always packed during lunch hour which is really amazing considering how other restaurants are doing in the current recession. Get the babaganouj (ba ba ga noosh) with handmade pitas. I understand the concerns of the previous reviewer, it is cramped before you're seated (hence the hole-in-the-wall appeal). Also, sometimes a cashier's cultural differences could be perceived as rude, but I've found... read more
Bad experience – Based on glowing reviews about this place, I decided to try it out. The inside was cramped and dirty. The menu was not extensive. The food was not bad but the service sucked. When we went to pay, the cashier was very rude and helped people who came after us first. I would never return here again and I highly suggest you find another dig.
Great food cheap – This is a classic for locals and while it does not have 5 star atmosphere but for a great little ethnic hole-in-the-wall eatery this is your place. Try the falafel sandwich and the humus; the pickles and feta are a house specialty. Finally, the baklava and honey cakes are decadent.
Great shawarma! – Great little eatery within a mini-grocery (check out the wonderful Milka brand chocolate confectionery... love those hazelnut varieties!). Ordered the chicken shawarma, with hummus, tabouli, creamy garlic dip, pita, and rice. If you're allergic to cornstarch, as I am, be sure to ask for regular pita, and not the pita bread they normally serve. Also, do not buy any baklava (oh, but they had so many delightful varieties!) as I'm told they're chock-ful of cornstarch! Back to my meal-I had to send the chicken b... read more
Tasty food – Just a word of caution. if you are muslim, there chicken is not halal (kosher) only the beef and ground meat. Might want to check before you eat. When i went i assumed from their origin that good would be halal but not all of it was.
Best for the buck – I discovered this place by accident and have been happy ever since. I only live in the Valley for part of the year, but I make a trip to Haji Baba every time I'm here. The food is delicious and plentiful. The prices will make your knees weak. You'll love this place.
Yum Yum Plenty – A friend brought me here a year ago and I love the food. Very tasty you definately get your moneys worth. Good place to go for lunch if you're nearby.
Maybe, Maybe NOT! – This place is 'OK', if you've never had Mid Eastern food before. The owners are not friendly, and the food can be A LOT BETTER! It can also use some cleaning......!!! Not a good impression fpr Mid East food. It has it's people, but they just do not know better!!
