My wife and I rented 2 tandem kayaks and took our 3 kids (9, 7, & 4) out to Waties Island. We are an experienced kayaking family so we opted for the rental instead of the guided tour to allow our kids 2 hours to play on the expansive beach and explore the shoreline. If you’ve never kayaked before, I would recommend the guided tour to make sure you are taking the best path because we did get stuck once in the sand in shallow water. Even though we did not do the guided tour, the Great Escapes crew was so thoughtful, kind, and ... read more

We had a great experience kayaking with our guide Bubba! I can’t say enough good things about this guy. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating to our large group of 12, mixed with younger children. It was a great experience and would highly recommend. The lazy river tour with Bubba was one of the best kayaks events anyone in our group has ever been on. The rest of the staff were very friendly too and clearly hustled loading/unloading/docking kayaks for our larger group. We look forward to coming back again!

We enjoyed the kayaking, 2 adults 5 kids (one in a tandem). There's an island before waites you can stop at with hundreds of small crabs everywhere, dont miss it! We found a sand dollar at Waites and it was so peaceful being on an empty beautiful beach. The kayaking in was fairly easy but the way out, in my opinion was difficult. We've kayaked rivers and creeks but this was totally different. Just FYI because I had read many reviews saying this was easy, for me and my family it was kind of difficult.

Amazing. Highly recommend. Our guide Bubba was excellent, an expert paddle companion with great energy, patience, competence, and knowledge of the history and workings of the river. His passion for the river comes through, and he struck the right balance between care and attention to the group (we knew we were in good hands) while keeping the experience loose and relaxed. The river itself is a beautiful waterway offering visually stunning scenery. It often feels like you're paddling through a forest of trees. We already want... read more
