Citysearch Editorial Review – Can't afford that trip to Italy or just want to recreate your European honeymoon without the pricey airfare? No problem. You can still have a molto romantico getaway with an authentic gondola ride ... through the waterways of Naple Islands in Long Beach. Started by Mike O’Toole in 1981, Gondola Getaways features a small fleet of built of 25-foot-long gondolas made of oak frames, mahogany plywood and fiberglass overlay. Whether it's an engagement, wedding or anniversary celebration or simply a fu... read more

Hidden Treasure Attraction – We were in the Long Beach area and wanted to do something different from the typical going to the beach, shopping and theme parks and discovered this fun, little romantic attraction. The Gondolier started us out with a basket of bread, cheese and salami, and we had brought a bottle of wine, which they opened for us and gave us cups to drink out of. As we traveled through the Naples Canals, the Gondolier gave us a brief history of the surrounding establishments and other quirky historical notes ab... read more

NOT WORTH THE MONEY – The ride only goes in a large circle and the boat that we got looked like it needed repairs. What ruined the evening for us was the smartass comments from the gondolier. Rude and condesending comments destroyed the romantic feel of the ride and my husband and I were both taken back. I called the office several times and asked if the gondola we had reserved had music. The girl who answered said that she knew the boat we had reserved had music. What a joke. All the boats have music. The music was just a h... read more

Excellent way to propose – I spent a long time thinking about how to propose to my girlfriend, and eventually found this place. I was kinda nervous about our water adventure turning into an underwater adventure, but our gondolier was skilled and that wasn't a problem. They even corked and put the wine bottle we brought into ice. They take you on a circular route that goes through a gorgeous marina community. I strongly suggest you go at a night on a full moon - it shines on the water and looks mystical. Our gondolier sang in... read more

If your looking to win or re-win a girl's hart, than this is it. – This place is golden. Before going be prepared. Pack your trunk with a bottle of wine, a radio cd player w/ batteries (some gondolas have no cd players) a romantic cd, and chocolate dipped strawberries. The strawberries can be bought just down the road from gondola getaway at Rocky Mountain Chocolate. You must first make reservations at CAFE PICCOLO (3222 E. Broadway) and gondola getaway. Piccolo's is Very classy, fireplace, Italian. The Gondola ride, The gon... read more

Romantic and Intimate – The info: It's $75 for two people not $65. You need to make reservations over the phone and they'll ask for your credit card. Salami, cheese and bread is provided. They'll open your wine and take a picture of your party before departing. Our picture came out great (they used a digital camera). The ride is around 50 minutes. They say valentines day and december are the most busy times of the year (the houses within the canal are all lit up w/ xmas lights). Summer is busy too w/ the weather being just p... read more

The Most Romantic Evening – I had a very positive gay-friendly experience here, too. My girlfriend took me here on our first Valentine's day and it was perfect! It couldn't have been more romantic. At first I felt awkward because I wasn't sure how they'd react to us but the staff was super friendly and our gondolier made us feel completely at home. The sun was setting as we were snuggled under a warm blanket, serenaded by our gondolier, escorted through the canals and were offered bread and cheese for a snack. We also shared... read more

Gondola Getaway – My husband & I did the Godola Getaway for our anniversary & absolutely loved it. It was really romantic & so close to the real thing, we had a great, friendly gondolier (& he sang well too!) and the pricing was so reasonable.
