Visited the terminal on a Saturday and really enjoyed it. The farmers market was on with heaps of great produce and food vendors, yum. It was busy and the atmosphere was friendly and vibrant. For an international tourist it felt like a good local experience. I have read comments about the homeless but that didn't seem to stand out but you are aware of them, but to be honest homeless is an issue world wide. Definitely worth a visit in a weekend.

The ferry building has food vendors and bathrooms, the staff at each gate is very helpful and friendly. They ask you if you have any questions when you feel lost as a tourist.
Robbed of $28 and a bit of dignity. We rented bikes in SF and rode all the way to Sausalito. Stunning views, great ride—10/10 would recommend. Then we tried to catch the Golden Gate Ferry back. We bought tickets from a machine, waited in line… and just as we’re about to board, a crew member stops us: “Your bikes (Grab and Roll) aren’t allowed on the ferry.” Wait, what?! Why? No idea.
