I was an EMT certified army medic for 4 years with a tour of Afghanistan. I applied for a volunteer position here because as I left the army, my EMT cert was about to expire and the only way to recertify was to have an affiliation with an emt/fire department like this. I offered to volunteer for next to nothing and they rejected me with a letter telling me "You don't have enough experience."
