AWESOME! YOU WON'T BE DISAPOINTED! I really don't understand the review below this one, they have glass cases all around the sides that are locked that contain expensive items, you are allowed to walk anywhere around there.. just need to ask for help to get into them. ANYWAY - Fantastic thrift shop,This place just got a face lift inside and out, to make it appear as it did back in historic Ardmore -- It's fantastic. Wide variety of products and items, great prices, and friendly staff. Also a great place to sell items and par... read more
Rude clerk lost our business My husband and I were enjoying our first trip to Penny-Wise. We had gone down the first aisle, and when we started up the next, my husband saw shelves full of collectibles. He walked over to look at them when a store clerk yelled at him to get out of there before he broke something. There were no signs letting us know to stay out of that aisle, nor a rope or gate to keep customers out. She yelled a second time as he was trying to exit the aisle. Many customers turned to see what was going on. Rat... read more
Thrift shop? While their oftentimes artfully designed window displays will draw you in, Penny-Wise's prices will not keep you coming back. Very overpriced and even if it IS a good cause, their goods are donated and should be priced accordingly.
God merchandise, high prices This second hand shop's proceeds go completely to benefit Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, so your shopping can support a good cause. Their prices fro housewares is quite high (about 75% ofnew prices) They often have some very nice pieces of furniture. Clothing prices are more reasonable, but the styles tend to be matronly! This shop is always busy every time I go, they must be doing something right!
good mainstream thrift shop i have bought lots of stuff at this shop over the years. they are not great on mens clothes, but almost no thrift shop is. in compensation, they have a very good selection of furniture, a fair selection of housewares, and lots of framed art at good prices. be sure to check the locked display cases for some interesting collectibles -- this is an affluent area and there are some unusual goodies if you lok closely.
Head down the street. Compared to the other second-hand stores on the Main Line, Pennywise is a bit of a disappointment. Its prices are lower than some you will find, but the selection (especially clothing) is limited and the merchandise tends to be in only adequate condition. Id recommend walking down the block to the new thrift shop in the old Harrisons storefront, or driving to the Bryn Mawr Hospital thrift shop on Haverford Ave.
