Skilled surgeon so the rumor goes. BUT is that enough to make up for a very rude and dismissive attitude toward patients and the staff he was working with? I am pretty sure it is not when there are so many options?
I had an open ventral hernia repair and everything went 100% as expected. Dr. Gerndt was pleasant and informative on our first visit. The office was very professional, organized, and clean. Surgery was scheduled within a week of my first visit at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. I was in and out the same day. The nursing staff took good care of me. Although I was still a little groggy from surgery I do remember the dr talking to me and asking me if I had any questions. Recovery also went as expected. My post-surgery a... read more
Dr Gerndt was right to the point and very thorough. I asked him a question to test him, listened to his answer and then tried to dissuade him. He was adamant and decisive. That is exactly what you want in a surgeon! I didn’t get a second opinion but had the hernia repaired and the results were so much better than years ago. My kids wanted me to have the surgery back in Palm Springs, my winter home but I know I got great care right here in Middle Tenneessee. Dr Gerndt’s “aloofness” is simply him being the best physician. I went 1st time he touched each big toe said legs are fine less than or just about 5minutes! I was told to get sonogram after 1yr he said no dont need. I could not believe this my legs means I can walk if not checked properly how do I know? Since that visit my legs bothering me now, have 2nd appt I want reassurance they are ok.
Not a good experience at all the Dr is extremely rude and makes you feel unwelcome. Would not recommend him to all noone, his staff are amazing.
I was told Dr. Gerndt is an excellent surgeon, and I still believe that. However, he made no effort to explain the procedure to me before it was done, and I did not see him afterward. During the surgery he spoke to me twice even though he kept up a steady conversation with the nurse assisting him. He probably spent a grand total of 45 min. with me, and that included the surgical procedure.
