Absolutely terrible claims service. No written correspondence, just phone calls from beneficiaries to Genworth to find out what is going on. It took six weeks to determine they didn't have the correct type of death certificate and they never received an additional document. This, even though the required certificate and documents were mailed directly to Genworth. They limit the payout options for an IRA to one method, a lump sum which triggers immediate taxation. Pathetic.
We have maintained our LTC policy with Genworth for about 20 years now. The agent who sold these policies extoled the virtues of Genworth and the fact that their actuaries were so talented that they felt confident that our premiums would not go up significantly. Over the past 5 years they have more than doubled. Genworth reached a settlement in a class action lawsuit where they claimed no wrongdoing, but one has to wonder. They clearly are not as good at projecting cost increases as once claimed or might it be something else... read more
