We had dinner at Gene’s on October 3rd. The space is really nice, great ambiance and the wait staff is fantastic. Unfortunately the food does not match the price. The Pork Rinds with Salmon Roe and Cr�me Fraiche had good flavor, but was really hard to eat- the rinds were not crunchy, but chewy instead and too big for one bite. Sept. 2026: Four of us went their for dinner. One of us was vegetarian. They have two dishes on the menu for vegetarians and the waitress said both were unavailable. We asked if they could cook her something off menu but the refused. Three of us ate but one of us did not. Food was average, price was high for the quality. Not accommodating for their giests. We should have walked out. Never again.
Gene's sets itself apart by being fully committed to its unique food, its excellent beverage program, and its people. They expertly step to the side to allow the seasons, ingredients, historic charm, and the guests do all the talking. So if you're looking for a night to breathe, to eat and drink, to savor, walk into Gene's. But make a reservation first!

Gene’s absolutely blew us away. We walked out saying it might be the best restaurant in Columbus, and after thinking about it, I’m not backing away from that statement. There were multiple “stop talking and taste this” moments during dinner. The tomato on focaccia with sauce and anchovy was ridiculous — quite possibly the best tomato bite I’ve ever had.
