About this business
Born into an Italian family in Roseland, a South Chicago Italian neighborhood, Tom Gelsosomo has always loved great Italian food. As an aspiring young entrepreneur who had worked hard in restaurants in the late 1970's, Tom wanted to share his love for Italian food with people through his Gelsosomo's (Jel-sah-so-mos) Pizzeria restaurant concept. Tom decided to open his first restaurant in Portage, Indiana in 1979.

Tasty Pizza in the Duneland area Gelsosomos will stir no one with either its decor or service. It looks like a standard issue family restaurant, and the servers bring your food and drink without insulting you. No, you don't go here for the ambiance. You go for the pizza and bread sticks, which are outstanding. You get lots of cheese and toppings, all of which are fresh made and hot, and the tomato sauce is not overwhelming. The prices are pretty standard for this type restaurant.
This is not the first time I have gone to Gelsosomo's in Chesterton and have had terrible service mixed with horrible management. Not to mention, the food was disgusting this time too. My family and I will never be back again. We sat down in the restaurant at about 8 pm. It took the waitress no time at all to get our drinks and our order, but she was very hard to get in touch with thereafter. Gelsosomos Pizza is a great place to grab some good pizza. Their Canadian bacon pizza is wonderful...the only kind my hubby ever gets! If you dine in, the atmosphere is very relaxed and if the company you're with doesn't entertain you, then the TV and trivia will.
