We have been coming to Gatlinburg for 43 years. We rented a cabin from Timber Top Rentals. We walked in and saw several dead cockroaches. Other bugs were laying around so I swept. June 13th there was a terrible storm in the moutains and it rained and rained. Our kitchen ceiling let loose and Plaster fell from the ceiling, with all the rain. We enjoy the shopping and restaurants in this quintessential tourist town. Look for colorful streets and even more colorful shops. There are plenty of family friendly activities in the center of town, including a first rate aquarium. Be prepared to pay $20 to park. For those who want to see nature, local history, and bears use the ring road circling the town.
This is a fun town to visit. I’ve been coming here for years. This visit I have to use a wheelchair to get around due to back issues. This is definitely not a handicap friendly town! The sidewalks are very uneven and full of small holes ( enough to stop a wheelchair).There are very few stores that don’t have steps (inside or outside. Most businesses have a very rough transition going in and out.Even the hotel where I am staying has no ramp to the street from main entrance. We had to go to parking garage and to have a ramp. Timber tops Cabin- The photos on line must have been when it was first built . What we drove up to was a run down unkept , nasty cabin. They resent a cleaning couple, who barely spoke English , we did not unpack , we went to eat and came back. My daughters went to grocery to buy cleaning supplies and gloves. They cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms and we took down the yellowed nasty shower liners and replaced them , all three of them .
