If I could give zero stars, I would. Do not take your vehicle to Kevin. He is not the mechanic some older reviews may describe. Based on my experience and the pattern in more recent feedback, something has clearly changed and not for the better. My nightmare began in October 2025 when I brought him my Nissan Sentra for a routine transmission replacement after 140k miles. My classic car had an engine fire under the hood and was subsequently towed to Gaines Automotive at 1 am. Eventually the car was declared a total loss. Mr. Gaines assisted my insurance company and was nice enough to allow the car to remain at his business for a number of weeks at no charge. Thank you Mr. Gaines for your wonderful services and assistance. It is great to find a business that truly helps those in need.
I highly recommend this shop, he has always done me right. His shop is surprisingly fast I normally drop my car off Friday and plan to leave it for the weekend and he usually calls Saturday to pick up. yes the shop is open on Sunday. He has fixed minor things for me free of charge cause I'm a loyal costumer. I send all my folks his way. You don't have to worry about being a female and being up charged or taken advantage of if you aren't mechanically inclined.
Have lived in this area of NC all my life. Moved from Chapel Hill, NC to Pittsboro NC in 1988. Have had multiple auto shops work on all my vehicles since 1988 till present date(April 2026). Found Gaines Automotive Repair around 2 years ago thru a friend and will not be going anywhere else. Kevin (the owner) has serviced my 2002 Toyota Avalon and 2016 Chevy Colorado truck for all my maintenance and repair needs since then and I could not be more satisfied with good Communication, fair pricing and friendliness in my experience... read more
Extremely trustworthy mechanic. This can be rare these days since I had my car at Audi and on both occasions were shady as can be I will pick this guy over Audi any day of the week. Great communication and quick response time. Strong recommendation if you have a Mercedes. So glad I found this shop.
