Freshies originated in 2004 when our customers began requesting fresh food. Maine needed something different than the traditional convenience store, that went beyond just gasoline, tobacco, and beer. This led us to taking hold of the opportunity to reinvent ourselves into something new to better serve you, to reinvent ourselves into a program focused around fresh food and healthier options.

Convenient location on the main (not Maine) drag in Ellsworth. Competitive regular gas price. Clean parking/fuel area. Two metal picnic tables outside. What’s outstanding are the staff. I stopped to buy four bags of ice but was simultaneously informed by two employees that it was less expensive to buy their single bigger bag if I wanted that much ice. Both staff seemed eager to help the guy they’d never see again. How excellent is that?! I’ll be back today for more ice.
Bought a couple pre made sandwiches at around 7 last night(2/8/25) both had new expectation dates put on top of the old sticker. After I peeled it off was able to see the sandwiches expired 4 days ago.. I only got curious cause the crust of the bread was completely rock solid. Last time I ever buy premade sandwiches, just want people to be more vigilant than I was. Pick through the the sandwiches and check for 2 layers of labels!
I used to absolutely love coming here. Because it was convenient, moderately priced, and the staff is very friendly and efficient. Lately, however, it's become more of a nuisance to stop into this ellsworth location because of the fact that the homeless constantly hang out here and harass the customers for rides, cigarettes and money. Freshees has signs of no loitering but yet they have a counter set up with chairs, so it's inviting for them to just hang out all day. Very friendly staff, clean facilities, fresh food, good parking. Good breakfast, subs, fresh coffee. Best store in town.
