It's not big, but it is impressive. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and friendly. The exhibits are fantastic. The light pollution over the century was very informative.
Come for a dive into gamma ray capturing technology and theory with the Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System (VERITAS). If you're lucky - you'll get sleet on the tour!
Great tour if you're into neutron stars and how to find them.
The visitor center at the Whipple Observatory is well worth a trip south of Tucson. There are very interesting exhibits on the gamma-ray telescopes, dark sky issues, spectroscopy, and a great virtual reality exploration of the 6.5 mirror telescope building. Amy Oliver and the others here have put together a very-well done scientific display. We were not aware of the tours that are available, but will definitely come back another time.
