We went on Saturday for a retirement meal and food ordered in advance. We’ve been here before for some big work events and it’s been really good. This time was very disappointing. I went to Fratello's on the 12th December expecting it to be busy but it was dead. That would be due to the fact that the whole place smelt like drains, the service was appalling and the food was mediocre and overpriced. We were a table of 6, and there were two other tables occupied in the whole restaurant, yet we waited 45 minutes for our starters which consisted of bread and olives, which require no cooking, and one portion of chicken wings. We were staying at the hotel and ordered pizzas, which took 45 minutes to arrive. We could see the "chef" preparing the pizzas - he appeared to be consulting a list of toppings, as if unfamiliar with the process. I ordered the Pollo pizza, which was supposed to be topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, chicken and basil. I think this was possibly the worst pizza I've ever eaten in my life. Staff very welcoming, friendly & efficient. Nothing too much trouble.
Visited this restaurant as part of a group on a tour staying at the Holiday inn Jesmond . Inspite of some bad reviews of recent tour groups I can only imagine it has made them up their game because personally our food was lovely, a good choice every day , always hot and cooked perfectly. The staff were accommodating, polite and very friendly. Really enjoyed ourselves !
