I booked a "over size sturgeon" trip with Sturgeon Frank. I assumed we would be on the Columbia below the dam...I was wrong. The night before our trip I called and Frank told me to meet him in Astoria. I thought maybe he knew something about a honey hole I didn't. We only caught keepers and shakers...maybe one that was to big to keep, but nothing that impressed me. And to boot we left the water at 1:00pm. Been sturgeon fishing with Frank several times. He's been guiding sturgeon trips on the Columbia and Willamette longer than anyone else. If you want to catch fish 8'+ call Frank. The largest we've got with Frank is nearly 10 feet. I've fished with lots of guides, both salmon and sturgeon, and Frank is a straight shooter who finds fish. Other guides blow thousands each year on technology. Frank relies on experience and a deeper understanding of the waters than the younger guys that rely 100% on rumor and electronics. Not impressed – Not only am I not impressed wit this guide service, but I found him quite rude. I scheduled a trip for my family last summer. We only caught 1 fish after Frank told me how great fishing was to get us to book the trip with him. Ok, now 1 fish might have been just a bad day but the other guide boats around us seemed to be catching pretty good. i also found Frank to be quite rude to my family and just not a friendly person to spend a day trapped on a small boat with. i will not be using his guide service again.
