Fox Hotel, Banff AB – Sept 12–15, 2025 We had high hopes for the Fox Hotel, but overall our stay was a disappointment. From the outside the hotel looks beautiful, and the lobby is warm and inviting. However, the suite itself felt dingy and not as clean or well-appointed as we would expect. At first we assumed the hotel had been built in the 1960s, so we were very surprised to learn it was only built in 2007 — less than 20 years old, yet it feels much older. Our expectations of this hotel were high. With the expensive room price, viewing the photos online, and a decent location on Banff Ave for walking distance to shops and amenities, we were stoked! Booked end of June for early Sept. Many hotels stating full occupancy. We arrived to our very tiny room (approx. 200 sq. ft) with a King bed squished in. We were really disappointed with our stay, especially given the $550/night price tag. The rooms are quite small and the mattress was uncomfortable. The hot tub, which we were looking forward to, felt dirty — there was soap scum, cracks, and the whole area looked worn down from years of heavy use. The worst part of the stay was the constant issue with the room keys. Our key cards stopped working repeatedly, and we had to get them reset six times during our stay. Well, the staff here was absolutely amazing, great customer service, the person that checked us in was wonderful, and the waitresses for breakfast at the Chili’s were great as well, this place was sort of disappointing from the difference between the pictures and reality. The cave pool downstairs is actually smaller than what you think, and in our room, there was no AC and it was the beginning of August and it was absurdly hot! The rooms are also very small.
