I just had a failure of what they installed after only 5 years. The situation: they spliced the appliance wire from the pump directly into a sub breaker box and connected the wire nuts to the incoming romex loosely. No protection from sewer gasses was provided. The result was that I came outside to a non working pump, melted wires, and melted wire nuts! I replaced this setup with a proper code-compliant GFCI outlet, got a new pump and installed myself.
