We were the original shop, here first, Uptown/Irish channel on Magazine St & on Rampart @ Canal 15 years ago. After Katrina we found our current location, THE St. Charles Ave tattoo shop in New Orleans. Still the original, world famous, Forbidden Body Art.

Glad I Saw That Limo! I went to their Frenchman shop, and was the first tattoo of the day...they hadn't opened yet but they let me in anyway. I showed my tattoo that I wanted revised, he gave me an estimate and we waited for the artist to come to work. He didn't show up within 20 minutes, so the owner DROVE me to his St. Charles shop! Talk about a full service place! I was introduced to my artist (Dave) who immediately knew what I was going for. We talked for the hours it took to do the work, and I talked to the other artist... read more

Awesome Tats and Conversation I LOVED my tattoo here! I walked in, talked to the one artist who was working, and he brought Henryboy (my artist) up to the counter. After about 5 minutes of talking to me to get an idea of what I wanted, he fleshed out a rought draft and 15 minutes after that I was under the needle. For over 2 hours, he worked on my forearm, all the while talking to me, and not just small talk. Henryboy was a professional about the tat, sure, but he was also engaging, which made the experience phenomenal! Now ... read more

New Location & Great Artists Forbidden Art has two locations now. One is on Canal & Rampart right downtown, and another is on the other side of the French Quarter in the Farbourg Marigny area on Frenchmen Street. You can walk there from Bourbon Street easily if you walk East through the residential part of Bourbon street. It is a safe walk through a pretty and historic neighborhood. I like the Frenchmen shop. It is not entirely finished decorating yet but it is a nice environment. Rain is a really awesome female artist there... read more

Fleur de Lis I got a tattoo here from an artist named V about a week ago. Awesome work. I got a fleur de lis on the inside of my lower lip. I was very nervous about the tattoo, but he told me what was going to happen with it and how many times I was going to have to get it touched up and all that jazz. I'm going for my second touch up tonight. It's really hard to find a tattooist who can do a lip, so definately check this place out if you're getting something done.

Comfortable Atmosphere and Exceptional Art I went here for my first tattoo and will go back for any others I get. I was very nervous going in, since I had checked out several before this, and found them to be very...awkward. The people didn't want to talk to you and the waiting area left something to be desired. Forbidden Art was an oasis in the midst of all that rudeness. First of all, they were open at 2 a.m.! Everyone was very friendly, from the moment we walked in. I wanted a very specific tattoo, and the artist helping ... read more
