Excellent course on the basics of transforming rough-sawn wood into wood ready for making furniture. Hands-on use of the tools needed to machine wood, along with an understanding of how wood reacts, makes this a fundamental class for anyone involved in woodworking. Highly recommend.

This is a great place to spend a week in the woodshop. I took the intro to casemaking class. Kate, Andrew and Carl did a terrific job on the theory and techniques of this topic. The classes are small, there’s plenty of individual attention and the fellow students are a great bunch.

If I could give 6 Stars I certainly would! I acquired more knowledge and skills in the week long Hand tools & joinery class than I could have imagined. The class was tremendous fun, very rewarding, and always in the context of safety. Highly recommended!

I took the weeklong box-making class in January, 2026. The class was wonderful! I picked up many new skills and improved my technique on several others. The class gave me new insights into design and aesthetics, where my prior emphasis was more narrowly focused on joinery and execution. Best of all, the insructors, Kate Swann and Andrew Gibson, are patient, knowledgeable and gifted teachers. They hit a perfect balance between theory and practice.
