I initially used Corcell when my son was born in 2001. Last year FamilyCord acquired Corcell and I received the standard letter explaining the change etc. I didn't think it was that big of a deal until I just opened the email with my annual fee due. It went from $99 per year to $150! FamilyCord also encourages paying ahead by 5, 10, 25, or 50 years to receive a slightly reduced charge. My wife recently gave birth to a baby boy in DC. We had pre-ordered a kit through Family Cord/CA Cryobank where we intended to bank cord blood. On the day of the birth the doctor harvested and packaged the cord blood in the kit in accordance with all of the kit's instructions. When the doctor was finished, I called the number on the kit to let the company know our child's cord blood was ready for pickup. Shortly thereafter, a courier arrived and retrieved the kit.
