I contacted Watts Heating & Cooling after smelling gas in my garage. They charged $169 for a diagnostic, but their technician did not detect a leak. I continued to smell gas and contacted NW Natural. NW Natural came out at no charge, immediately identified a hazardous gas leak, located the source, and red-tagged the furnace as unsafe to operate. The issue was a defective gas valve.
