My elderly mother had a very upsetting experience today at the VGH Eye Clinic. The technician was rude and dismissive, taping her eyelid in a way that caused burning. When my mom voiced her discomfort, the technician ignored her and told her not to move. I have never been to any medical facility with worse scheduling practices than the Eye Care Centre at VGH. I have had to wait 2 and sometimes 3 hours for a scheduled appointment. Yes, there are times that emergencies take priority, but this happens EVERY time. There are even signs tell you that a wait can be hours. Why can't they institute more realistic scheduling? Do they think that their patients typically have a whole morning or afternoon to kill?
My mom had an appointment with Dr Navajas and I accompanied her. The doctor himself was OK, but there was a girl who examined my mom’s eyes right before the doctor did, not sure if she was a student/intern or an assistant (a very young Indian girl). She didn’t show any respect, she was very short, aggressive and impatient about the instructions, whenever my mom didn’t understand she would raise her voice. The staff were friendly and helpful. The eye specialist was patient, answered my questions and took the time to explain everything as needed. I ended up getting a great new pair of glasses right at the clinic. Great service all around.
