Essential Sailing Industries is run by husband and wife team Jason and Emily Knott, who started as a mobile service and store around the Port of Friday Harbor. In 2022 they have established the Essential Sailing Outlet at the Jensens shipyard right outside of the town of Friday Harbor. In addition to the store, we have highly qualified employees available to do bottom painting on your boat, install zincs, diesel heaters and more. Upstairs from the store is a consignment shop.

The owner was very helpful! I was passing through while traveling and he took the time to help me out and problem-solve a concern I had, steering me in the right direction for how to assess the issue. I would definitely recommend their business!
Jason and his crew were overly gracious in helping us with our motor. It was even right before closing and they stayed late to try and help us on the spot. Cannot thank them enough!

I heard about a new kind of bottom paint for boats and was initially quite skeptical. After speaking to the owner of the shipyard, I felt more confident and comfortable with having this product used on my boat. The owner was very professional and reassuring in his knowledge. Now that my boat is in the water again, I am beyond amazed. I have gained 2-3 knots using this silicon bottom paint. I could not be happier. We will see how it performs long term and how well it holds up. I’ll let Jason know.
Needed to have maintenance done. It was done right on now and the estimate was right on the mark. Since I already had my boat out and I needed the bottom painted soon. I had them paint it. Came out looking fantastic. Since getting it out on the water I am really happy with the increased performance and speed.
