We thought this place was adorable the second we pulled up. Outdoor tables with fire for heat, cozy blankets, and cute medieval decor. Inside, very English pub-ish with terrific views of outside. Upon being seated, we were each given a long-stem rose and a basket of warm, fresh bread arrived. I ordered a moscato, which was served promptly. Always LOVE eating here when I come to vacation. I was there for the Friday fish fry, had the walleye and it was ok. For soup I had the baked cheese French onion soup and it was the best I've ever had. Fresh hot baked bread for the table. Just make sure to save room for the Grasshopper! I had all u can eat fish and only ate 3 so I could save room for the Grasshopper and I did NOT regret that decision. The ambience was off the chart. The server, Nolan, was outstanding. The food great. Many nice subtle touches for your dining enjoyment.
If I were to summarize it, it would be worth a trip from Chicago just to eat here. It is now my favorite restaurant of all times. The biggest thing you notice, after the garden outside dining, is the attitude of the help. They seem to genuinely enjoy serving you. I have visited here twice. I come to Door County from the Chicago Area more than a few times a year and missed it until the last trip. The food is excellent. The English Inn was a WOW for us! We had driven past it several times and were intrigued by the English-style setting and those amazing polished knights out front. We finally decided to have dinner there on a beautiful August evening, and I’m so glad we did. We chose the outdoor seating, which is absolutely lovely—beautiful perennial gardens, a little creek, a large fire pit, and even blankets on the chairs in case the evening gets chilly.
