The theater used to be called the Mosque, built in 1924-1926 and open up oct 28 1927. The Accu Temple Shriners owned the building and sold it in 1940. The building is besutiful, seats close together but for being 90 years old I would not change anything about the premises. I've been there as a small child and as an adult and I love it the same as a child.
Spacious, clean and good seating. I love going to events here!
Saw Macklemore there was best concert I've been too. The theatre is beautiful.
I recently moved from NYC to Richmond; and it's the first time I've been inside the theater. The theater itself appeared very clean and comforting. Personnel was very professional and pleasant. The sound system was excellent. I planned to go back on a regular basic. I recommended to those who are visiting Richmond and/or moving to Richmond like I did.
The show was very good, we saw elf. However the seats aren't staggered so if you have somebody tall sitting in front of you, or even two rows in front of you, you can't see a thing. I had to lean on my husband the entire time. The concessions were also poorly organized. We waited in like for ten minutes to be told popcorn didn't arrive yet. So we got our seats and at intermission went out to get something them. We waited again for 25 minutes this time to get to the front and be told they sold out of popcorn and candy. The shows I've seen have been quality shows. The balcony seating is VERY cramped. Being tall, it became quite uncomfortable. The staff were very helpful when finding seating. Concessions is difficult to pay and pick up. Very crowded at entrance door, line wrapped around the building. Will call pickup went smoothly. I would recommend the venue.
Beautiful theater but the seating on the balcony isn't staggered so if you are a woman (or small person) and a man (or larger person) is sitting in front of you, you can't.see.anything. Not to mention the seats are tiny and crammed together so anyone over the height of 5'7" has zero leg room. I don't think I'll return.
Empire Theater has a 4.6 star rating with 4,791 reviews.
Empire Theater is closed now. It will open at 9:00 a.m.
