The doctors in the emergency department were highly professional. They accurately diagnosed my mother’s lung infection and provided effective treatment that led to her recovery. I’m very grateful to the doctors here.
My experience at Penn Medicine's Emergency Department left me disappointed, especially given their reputation for having a "comprehensive sickle cell center." Unfortunately, during my visit, the care I received did not reflect that level of expertise or compassion. I was in significant pain and felt that the policies and procedures for treating sickle cell patients need urgent reevaluation. Been here since 2am waiting and waiting. I asked can I get water nurse says not yet and walks away. Please don't go here they make u more sick terrible wait times, I don't even know why they exist. Just close the facility it's not needed
Some years ago, as a paying guest of their Witherspoon St facility, entering with a 104 fever a result of a perforated appendix, I spent almost 2 days before being operated on, because they didn’t have a qualified surgeon available. Then things got worse, the morphine drip I was supposed to have (should the open wound, which needed to be cleaned out twice daily, requiring a bit of pain relief). I had a deeply frustrating and concerning experience in the ER, where a severe lack of communication and empathy was evident. Despite being admitted in the morning for dehydration, I was denied water for several hours. Not one nurse initiated IV fluids, even though my condition was visibly severe. My mom had to step in and provide me with water, as my thirst went completely ignored.
