Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital was established in 1919, the result of community efforts to establish a general acute care facility for Northwest Alabama. The facility is named in memory of Eliza, the daughter of Captain Alexander and Camilla Coffee, whose generous donation contributed toward the purchase of the first building used as ECM Hospital.

This is the worst hospital I have been to in my ENTIRE life. My father came to the ER Halloween morning, having a stroke. The nurses let his blood pressure climb to almost 200/110 for about 45 minutes before they would give him medicine to bring it down. He was profusely puking on himself, nurses would not give him a clean gown until we requested one about 6 times, much less give him medicine to help with the nausea.
