I'm a clean freak. Before cleaning, I wiped a white glove on vent and it was gray in 3 days. After cleaning, I did same test 30 days later - glove still white. I have photos. That is proof it worked long-term. If you want to test your ducts, do white glove test on a supply vent. If gray in a week, you need cleaning.
