Beatty in general is a great location for trips to Death Valley. But there are not many food places and they close early. Plan to finish you dinner at 9 PM otherwise you won't get anything to eat (besides maybe the casino). The El Portal Motel is a good Motel. Our room was clean an well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. I can't say anything about the pool - we didn't check that. The only big downside was the broken ice-machine. Death Valley had 120+ °F when we where there. Great hotel for the price. We had a room that was in a one story building. There were chairs outside the room to sit and enjoy the warm night air and chat with the fellow tourists. Huge room with a fridge and microwave. Very simple, but comfortable room. Beds were comfy and coffee was great! Definitely going back next time i travel through Beatty.
