I have had such bad experiences with other gynos/doctors (especially female), but Dr. Merkel is genuinely the best doctor I’ve ever had. He answers all of my questions and makes sure I feel comfortable with each visit. He never pushes me one way or another on decisions, just informs and supports whatever choice I ultimately make. He also has expressed genuine concern that I’ve never experienced before from a healthcare provider when I was dealing with unsafe relationships or health issues. My experience with Dr. Merkel was deeply distressing and has caused me lasting trauma. On day two of my induction at St. Joe’s in Ann Arbor, which was progressing great over night, he came in to perform a cervical exam. As he was putting on his gloves, he said, “Don’t worry, I’ll treat you just like my wife, and I like my wife.” This comment was highly inappropriate, unprofessional, and immediately made me uncomfortable. Dr. Merkel is a very nice Doctor, he listens to you while your talking, he is very patient. I’m happy he is my Doctor.

I would highly recommend Dr. Merkel. It is so hard finding a new doctor. You can do the research, read the reviews, but until you actually meet them, you truly don't know. I felt very comfortable discussing my issues with him. He listened to my concerns and I feel very confident in the medical plan that we discussed together. Can't say it enough. If you are looking for a really good doctor, I highly recommend Dr. Merkel.
