It looks like Eckels hasn't been open since covid, but you can still peer in the windows and see the cool old soda fountain shop. My grandma used to get sodas here in the late 1930s and early 40s when she was done working at the beauty parlor. I hope the owner is able to sell to someone who maintains it as it is, or they hire someone to manage it. A shame to have such a beautiful piece of Mechanicsburg history sitting closed for so long. I really wanted to visit this ice cream shop because it was a filming location for Girl, Interrupted but it wasn’t open. Really disappointed, me and my fiancé planned this trip a month ago and we based our visit on the hours of operation listed on the website. It said they opened at 11:30am on a Friday but when we arrived it was closed. We waited for a half hour and nothing. Tried to call and just got send to voicemail. This store is not 'temporarily closed', it's permanently closed. When the owner died a couple of years ago, his wife decided not to re-open. The shop has not been open since I moved to Mechanicsburg two and half years ago.
