I have fond memories of this historic ice cream parlor having grown up in Mechanicsburg so I was thrilled to discover it was open today when I came to visit my mom. We had lunch and ice cream. The service is very friendly and the prices are unbeatable. Really hope to see Eckels open more regularly in time - the owners are so nice
A really delightful place to take a date, it's got the old fashioned charm and some of its own history is framed so you can read about it.
It looks like Eckels hasn't been open since covid, but you can still peer in the windows and see the cool old soda fountain shop. My grandma used to get sodas here in the late 1930s and early 40s when she was done working at the beauty parlor. I hope the owner is able to sell to someone who maintains it as it is, or they hire someone to manage it. A shame to have such a beautiful piece of Mechanicsburg history sitting closed for so long. I really wanted to visit this ice cream shop because it was a filming location for Girl, Interrupted but it wasn’t open. Really disappointed, me and my fiancé planned this trip a month ago and we based our visit on the hours of operation listed on the website. It said they opened at 11:30am on a Friday but when we arrived it was closed. We waited for a half hour and nothing. Tried to call and just got send to voicemail.
