Very cool drive. I would recommend a high clearance vehicle.
**driving a 2013 GMC Acadia FWD & hauling a 4x8 trailer** I planned a 10 night stay and ended up only staying 2 nights due to the road to get to the cabin. (I traveled over 1,700 miles with NO issues until those last FIVE miles to get to the cabin) We didn't plan on being stuck at the cabin. We wanted to site see while we were there too. USFS cabins and lookouts are not comparable to commercial for profit rentals. You are relying on previous renters to clean the cabin before you arrive which sometimes does not happen. Our star review is based upon a rustic cabin experience and some cabins have electricity, propane or just a wood stove. A 5 star for a USFS cabin or lookout could equal a 2 or 3 star review to a regular for profit cabin. The good: Nice 3 room cabin. Would be a much better cabin experience if they fixed the gravel roads to get there. They did not recommend high clearance vehicles but the road is very rough, rocky, uneven, with potholes a foot deep and a high clearance vehicle would do much better. It’s an Off the grid cabin that comes with a propane stove, dining table, 2 bunks/4 mattresses (bring bedding), some food in the pantry, pots, pans, firewood, etc. There is an ok outhouse.
