Duckdown is a bit of heaven on the shores of Rockport Harbor on the coast of Maine. The main house, designed by Hugh Newell Jacobsen, is a gem of an American modern home, and the beach house goes back to the 1940’s when Cornelius Grey repaired boats by bringing them up the private sand beach on railroad tracks to do his work. The owners/landlords do everything necessary and more to make your stay as perfect as it should be. Rockport and the surrounding areas are the best for an amazing visit.
I had a wonderful vacation at this one amazing property. My young daughters spent hours playing on the beach, finding sea glass, and exploring tide pools. The houses were incredible and completely different in great ways. The beach house is perched at the edge of the harbor and staying there feels almost like you’re on a boat. Duckdown is a very special property that is meticulously maintained by its owners. It has expansive views of one of the most charming harbors in New England and a private sandy beach edged by a picturesque cascade of characteristic Maine rocks. It's hard to believe that the owners of this stunning property are willing to share it! Rockport Harbor is postcard perfect, and Duckdown sits right on the water's edge with panoramic views of the harbor out to Penobscot Bay. You might never want to leave your perch on one of the decks or your own sandy beach but if you do, there's a fresh seafood market, wine and cheese store, coffee shop, fantastic restaurants, parks, and nature preserves all within easy walking distance. Anyone looking for a rental in one of the most beautiful architectural homes on Rockport Harbor, you’ll find it in Duckdown! With glass windows offering views of the harbor with every step, an airborne deck, and cozy guesthouse right on the water, it is as comfortable as it is breath taking. There is also a private beach for swimming and just relaxing. In addition, the owners couldn’t be kinder or more accommodating.
