Dubuque Karate Club is a family oriented traditional martial arts school teaching the Korean art of Tang Soo Do. We offer classes for children in our Little Dragon’s program beginning at five years old and Karate Kid’s program beginning at eight years old. The Junior & Adult Programs begin at 13 years old. As a family, we have been very pleased with the Dubuque Karate Club. My grandson is in the Dubuque Karate club and specifically attends the Galena, IL, location (which is held at the ARC). The instructors are kind, they do a great job working with kids with different temperaments, and they are learning so many things from Karate to discipline.
My son has been attending for about 2 weeks now and he loves it! It's definitely worth the money and the life lessons he will learn! Everyone is very friendly and helpful!
I am sure that the instruction the provide is adequate, but their children's program throws many red flags. They refuse, even on a first visit, to allow a parent to watch them interact with the child, and give no reason for a parent to trust them. I am all for teaching kids to be self sufficient, but when we are talking about kids as young as 5, and they forbid a parent from watching the adults interact with the children, that is a red flag the size of a football field. Teaches self-discipline and self-defense in ways both children and adults can pick up on. I recently joined and I am not disappointed.
