Great friday night crowd – Dragonfly is amazing on Friday nights! They call the night fetish friday's and the place gets packed! I've been other nights of the week and it's been pretty calm, but there's something about a tyku drink special that packs bars! If you're looking for a good friday night this is the place to be.
I went for a party and was worried just like anyone else about how we were going to work out the bill in the end. Dragonfly Mandarin had a great party menu that made the cost equal amongst everyone which is always great in large groups. Everyone felt at ease and the food was really great. I had the orange chicken which had great flavors and a nice crunchy crisp that's sometimes lost among all the sauce. Not everyone else enjoyed their dishes so that's why it only got 3 stars.
reservation had no meaning, management made no apology/concession – we had reservations at 830 and were told we would have to wait only 10 minutes for our table upon arrival. after 45 minutes the hostess tried to put some tables together for us but the manger would not allow this. no one came to talk to us or offer a free drink while we waited, i guess we were suppose to just sit there and wait, so after nearly an hour we simply left, i have never experienced that before at a restaurant in chicago when i had a reservation.
Horrible attitude - Don't every go here – I went here recently on a friend's recommendation. It was a cold winter night so I had a stylish leather jacket on and wanted to keep it on. They wouldn't let me keep the coat. They said it was a rule that every coat had to be coat checked. I looked around and saw at least 3 other people with coats on. Then a girl had her coat on and they wouldn't let her go up. But after some discussion they let her pass. Then we I pointed this out they said I was being obnoxious, but could go upsta... read more
Great ambiance and staff – I went to Dragonfly for dinner on Saturday. We had a reservation for 7 at 8pm. We had to wait about 15 minutes once we got there because it was a full house. The manager bought us our first round of drinks because it was my friend's birthday. That was one of the nicest gestures any restaurant has ever extended to us. Usually you only get a free dessert (which we also got at the end of the meal). The food was excellent. We ordered the Honey Walnut Prawns which was highly recommended from our server ... read more
Food was Gross – I just thought the food was nasty. I ordered beef with broccoli which was gooey. It was like they had used corn syrup or something in the preparation. We ordered spring rolls as an appetizer and they were way too greasy. The soup I had was ok. I would never go back.
We will definitely be back! Delicious chinese food! – This place is awesome! The food was delicious! My friend recommended it to me after her family went there for her parent's anniversary and couldn't agree with her more that the food was some of the best Chinese food I've ever eaten in Chicago. I'm from San Francisco so I'm used to authentic, grade A Chinese food. Dragonfly is a bit more americanized, but still very fresh and delicious. I would say, however, that parking is a bit hectic there with all the cars trying to ge... read more
Really bad. Just no idea at all – Soft shell crab not crispy and hot but like fish that had been cooked in old batter. Satay were OK but peanut sauce creamy. Fiery curry hot rice with chicken ugly mess of a lot of rice , cheap curry powder and no real heat. Fillet of snapper an insipid vague fish flavour. Fish was staemed but still watery in a salty cheap sauce. Bathroom no soap and no atmosphere. Won't survive the recession and ought not to. Sauvingnon by the bottle aws cheap, no lemony grassy tones. OH why go on...dreadful
Most disgusting attempt at chinese food – A group of us ordered lunch from Dragonfly on a Tuesday afternoon. We were sorely disappointed, both with the food and the price. They should pay people to eat the food. Fiery chicken was slimy, had no taste or "fire", and left a disgusting after taste in our mouths. We thought we would be safe with Orange Chicken as that is breaded and fried. We were wrong. I have never had chicken so dry. It tasted like dried soup chicken, if it really is chicken. How breaded and fried food is dry ... read more
