I first visited Shady Grove Ortho in Germantown Md office about my ongoing Knee issues in late 2020. At first I was impressed by the Dr. His name was BRETT HAMPTON. He came across as confident and he knew by looking at my X-ray that I was as in need of a knee replacement. I was very open to DR Hampton regarding all my issues right down to the pain medication I was taking. He boasted about his 300 surgeries and said I was a perfect candidate for this surgery. I was ready. I had years of severe arthritis and sleepless nights because of my knee and it was time to do something, or so I thought. I’m not a Dr. I went through all the necessary pre op procedures right away and one thing my primary Dr. did notice was that my white blood cells were off and after several blood draws it never changed. Dr. BRETT HAMPTON was FULLY aware of this and I asked him several times about it and he said “ITS NOT GOING TO STOP THIS SURGERY “! After he said that I was fine with moving forward and didn’t think anything of it. I trusted the DR! He did tell me many times that this surgery takes up to a year to recover from so I prepared for that. What I wasn’t prepared for was the amount of pain, discomfort and new issues I would later face. After surgery I did everything the DR asked of me. Physical Therapy, ice, heat and everything else that went with it. After months went by I was still in a lot of pain and my leg would not straighten. I also developed tendinitis in my ankle because I couldn’t walk right. I’m kept going back to DR BRETT HAMPTON and we did a second surgery to Straighten the leg. This surgery had little results. I recall one visit to the Dr. were I was very upset and I vented my frustration on him. That’s when I began to see who this person really was. After that visit he seemed to want to just get rid of me and even told me, “you are welcome to go to another Dr. for another opinion “. I told DR HAMPTON that I would give him that year then I would see another Dr. In the meantime I followed up with my primary Dr. and my white blood cells were still not right. Turns out I have LEUKEMIA and have had LEUKEMIA prior to my knee replacement surgery. This is huge when it comes to the healing process!!! I have yet to find a Dr. to date that would have moved forward with ANY surgery with my cancer. In short Dr. HAMPTON rushed to surgery when he should have pursued my blood work. I trusted this person and now I can’t walk correctly and maybe never will again. The Dr. never calls to check on me but his billing department is still trying to collect some $700 plus to this day. This billing to date I don’t understand and was never made aware of until 6 months after surgery. I will never pay it!! If you are considering a knee replacement surgery I would never recommend DR BRETT HAMPTON. My opinion of him is low and to me he just rushed my surgery and could care less about me. He only cares about his 300 successful surgeries he so often bragged about. I realized that when this Drs feelings get hurt, he is a child and turns his back on you.
Unfortunately at this point I’m going to consult a lawyer and file a malpractice suit on DR BRETT HAMPTON and Shady Grove Ortho. I will also per-sue a code of ethics investigation on this Dr. He was the Dr. in charge of my care and he needs to answer for his mistakes.
