I had back surgery for a ruptured L5 S1 disk in 2004 after many years in the Navy with lots of heavy lifting. The pain had returned by 2014 and again I had surgery this time for a cyst which had grown on the original wound site and a laminectomy in the same area. When I was 18 I fell out of a helicopter whilst repelling in the Army and badly damaged my spine. I was extremely fit so after discharge from the Army Hospital I kept soldiering on in the Regiment. As I got older my sciatica crippled me to the point where I could not walk for days at a time.
