My goal is to provide the highest quality care for any gastrointestinal illness suffered by my patients. Quality of care not only includes the knowledge a physician can bring to aid a condition, but the manner in which he/she expresses and fulfills a diagnosis and treatment plan with the patient. I bring every aspect of my training at Mount Sinai Hospital in endoscopic technique, bedside manner, and expert diagnosis to each and every patient.

Dr Akhtar was highly recommended to me for an endoscopy after a hospital stay revealed problems with my liver and biliary duct. You will find him to be likeable, empathetic and patient in discussing your case and you can be confident in his abilities. Dr. Akhtar is extremely intelligent, caring and attentive. He listened patiently to everything I had to say and was very empathetic and knowledgeable about my concerns. He saved my husband's life by finding & removing a large gallstone in his billiary duct; and took biopsy of surrounding inflamed cells to screen for possible cancer....He also advised that my husband needed to have his gallbladder removed. (Jan, 2014) (August 2016) Husband is doing fine thanks to Dr. Akhtar & a fabulous thoracic surgeon, Dr. Jerome Vernick!
