I saw Dr. Shaffer at Woodlawn Hospital during an ER visit on April 16, 2025. He dismissed my pain, veiled threat that I was opioid dependent due to being a patient at a pain management clinic- due to back surgery & pain for 11 years. At one point said, “What do you want me to do? I don’t have a magic wand that I can wave to make you magically better.” After going to my orthopedic surgeon, I was diagnosed with two crushed nerves & a displaced one. Surgery followed immediately. I have, unfortunately had several bad experiences at Porter Regional whenever my Grandmother has to be admitted. I have, on multiple occasions had to report MDs and RNs for improper protocol or lack of attention to some MAJOR health factors. But today, when my sweet Grandma had to be taken by ambulance to the ER, we were Blessed enough to have the amazing Dr. Shaffer! In the e/r for chest discomfort. Dr. Shaffer listened to symptoms and asked questions. He was empathetic, understanding and knowledgeable.
I had been battling extreme pain in my side and my family doctor was unable to diagnose my problem. As I had a major pain attack, I found myself in the er and was blessed to have Dr. Shaffer in charge of my care. He did the appropriate tests and blood work and found the source of my problem. I had surgery a week later and I've never been more grateful!
Dr. Shaffer was fast and efficient. He took the time to explain the procedures he was performing.
Dr. Schaffer recognized that the bite on my hand was dangerous and got me treatment right away which saved my hand.
