In 2022, I had genetic testing ordered due to a family history of cancer (my aunt died of ovarian cancer). The test reported an ATM mutation at 12.5% VAF. I was advised to “see oncology” and had to do that on my own- no support or guidance from anybody. There was no discussion of whether this result was germline (inherited) or somatic (blood-limited), which is essential for interpreting cancer risk.
