We just met with the Dr. Akst this morning and I am still processing his bizarre behavior. I went with my 25 year old son to what we thought was an appointment with an otolaryngologist to examine a lesion inside his throat. Upon arrival he had a scope test that was performed by one of his staff. She was amazing. She had a great demeanor that put both of us at ease. This changed drastically after the doctor came in. Incredibly knowledgeable and proficient but also approachable, friendly and communicative. Although he works with a fellow in an academic setting he spent significant face time face time and was willing to discuss all options thoroughly. Would highly recommend.
My appointment with Dr. Akst was the first unprofessional experience l have ever had with a medical provider. I arrived with my printed out referral form, Dr. Akst demanded I call and confront my doctor about why he had referred me because he did not understand the form. When the doctor did not answer as it was the end of the work day, he then berated me until I called a family member who had attended the appointment with the referring doctor, to corroborate what I remembered. Dr. Akst took the time necessary for me to understand my treatment, potential surgical options, and made me feel like I mattered. He is compassionate and caring. Truly a blessing for those of us going through vocal cord paresis.
