I was brought to MacNeal Hospital by ambulance for severe mid-back pain and a fever. The Attending ER Doctor contacted Dr. Aleksoniene to conduct an exam of me - within a few hours she informed me that most likely I had an infection of a disc in my spine, Discitis, and an infection of the vertebra as well (Osteomyelitis). She began aggressive treatment right away - thankfully! Within a couple of days she was able to confirm the diagnosis 100%, and had identified the infecting organism.
